Black and German. A history of Afro-Germans
“I’ve only been to Africa once in my life, as a tourist,” says Conrad Erben, whose mother tongue is German. Despite having been born and raised in Germany, he is often asked where he is “really” from. For many, being German and Black don’t go hand in hand. Five Afro-Germans share how racism has shaped their lives.
