It is thought that over 75% of Africa’s artistic heritage is currently held outside of the continent, for the most part in Europe.  For decades now countries of origin have been asking for these works back, most famously the Benin Bronzes held by the British Museum and other collections, with little success.  An in depth look at the complex question of the restitution of works of art.
