Beethoven: Symphony No. 2Jaime Martin - Dublin

Surprising contemporary audiences with its cheerfulness, energetic brio and mischievous wit, the Second Symphony from 1802 is Beethoven in excelsis. Its glorious, sunny vitality is all the more remarkable for having been composed while the onset of crippling deafness had driven the composer to thoughts of suicide. Instead, it conducts itself with those most Beethovenian of traits – unfettered hope and optimism – to render it a most reassuring anthem for our own troubled times.
Visionary conductor Jaime Martin conducts the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.
