The Turkish heritage site of Hasankeyf on the Tigris river is considered one of the oldest human settlements on Earth, with 12,000 years of human habitation. But the precious archaeological remains, which would be a UNESCO world heritage site if the Turkish government only applied for it, is threatened by the building of a hydroelectric dam which would drown the historic site.
