In May 2017 ISIS, losing ground in Syria and Iraq, tried to found an Asian caliphate in the Philippines. They recruited separatist Muslims and started an uprising centred on the city of Marawi. After 5 months of bloody fighting, the Philippine army crushed the insurgents. A report on the experiences of former ISIS fighters.
