Left-Handed Virtuosity

53 min

After losing his right arm in the First World War Austrian pianist Paul Wittgenstein refused to give up on his art. He asked composers of his day such as Prokofiev, Ravel or Britten to write pieces for him resulting in a repertoire for one-handed pianists. This body of work remains a challenge and a source of fascination for today’s pianists playing with one hand such as Leon Fleisher and Antoine Rebstein.
