Inaugurated in 1942, and then closed during the civil war (1975-1990), the National Museum of Beirut rose from the ashes in 1997 thanks to the efforts of curators, archaeologists and historians. The only museum in the region to hold such an extensive collection of Phoenician artefacts, it tells the story of a disparate people.
