A major opera event headlined by two big names – the dazzling Russian soprano Anna Netrebko and the brilliant Polish tenor Piotr Beczala – both in their first Wagnerian role for this production of Lohengrin, staged in May 2016 at the Semperoper in Dresden.

Headlined by two big names of the opera world – the dazzling Russian-born soprano Anna Netrebko and the brilliant Polish tenor Piotr Beczala – both appearing in their first Wagnerian role, this production of Lohengrin, staged in May 2016 at the Semperoper in Dresden, looked particularly promising from the outset, especially given the equally exceptional quality of the rest of the cast, which includes Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny, German soprano Evelyn Herlitzius (also seen in Elektra, directed by Patrice Chéreau) and her fellow-countryman Georg Zeppenfeld. Christian Thielemann conducts the orchestra of the Dresden Staatskapelle and the Staatsopernchor.
