At the end of the nineteenth century in the northwest Highlands, in a land battered by winds and storms, a Scottish aristocrat, Osgood Mackenzie, decided to create an oasis of exotic plants. The Loch Ewe, in the hollow of which is the garden, is a stretch of sea where the Gulf Stream enables many species from Chile, Nepal and South Africa to grow.
