Aix-en-Provence Festival

Aix-en-Provence, France

“When I first imagined Aix, one opera above all others was singing in my head,” recalled Gabriel Dussurget, the man who in 1948 put Aix-en-Provence firmly on the map as a festival city. “Fiordiligi and Dorabella descended like gentle ghosts onto the Cours Mirabeau and Mozart was on everyone’s lips.” Mozart, played in the courtyard of the Palais de l'archevêché, has thus remained a fixture of the festival to this day.
