The highest summit of Ukraine and the source of the river Prut is in the Carpathians, in the shadow of Mount Hoverla. Winding along for 953 kilometres, it is the second longest tributary of the Danube. After passing Chernivtsi, the historical capital of the Bukovina region, the river forms the border between Romania and Moldavia for almost 700 kilometres.
