In 1923, Pilou was 19 years old. He lived in Avallon, a small town in the Yonne. He dreamt of going to Paris, where he could be free to be openly gay. His photo albums document his life, a young gay man during the Roaring Twenties. But all good things come to an end: his idyll is threatened by the rise of extremism in Europe and the inevitable, murderously anti-gay backlash.
